Make it Home Design Company was born from the belief that great interior design creates an emotional connection between people and spaces. We work to create beautiful spaces that function and speak to your own design aesthetic. We work to make it feel like HOME!

With years of experience in real estate, interior design, home renovation and building, and short term rental design, our knowledge and experience can help guide your design and staging decisions to create a beautiful, coordinated space that fits your lifestyle or the market conditions.

I believe a house becomes a HOME when it is not only beautiful, but reflects the individual aesthetic, functionality and personality of the people it shelters. My goal as your designer is to learn about your family and your specific lifestyle and needs in order to transform your spaces into those you’ll LOVE coming home to. My creativity actually thrives when problem solving and customizing a design to fit your specific situations! As an active real estate agent at Avenue Realty, I have enjoyed helping many homeowners prepare their homes for sale and buyers imagine what a house could be! This experience will be shared to help you make the most of your investment when enhancing your home. As an experienced project manager, I also bring high levels of organization, planning, budgeting and coordination to your projects. It doesn’t just look pretty in theory… it is executed to perfection.

My husband, Eric, and our three boys, Liam, Logan and Declan, have called Greene County, VA home since 2012. When we bought our historic farmhouse, I found a playground for my life long passion for design and renovation! My own experience of trying to balance having a beautiful home I enjoy with an active and changing lifestyle has helped inform much of my design process for my clients. While I try to adapt designs to my client’s aesthetic, my over arching style pairs timeless form with modern function and spices things up with color and texture along the way.

Ashley Artale

Co-Founder and Airbnb/Commercial Designer

I truly enjoy walking into a space and envisioning the full potential of the property. Whether it is a business, club house, rental property or your home, I love helping a space reach its full potential. I have a passion for working with business owners on their commercial spaces and with investors filling their short term rentals with function and fun that guests will rave about!

I also own and operate Cabinets For You and Artale Consulting LLC. As the owner of multiple businesses I understand the need for multifunctional space that maximizes the utility of one of your business’s most expensive assets. That means creating a space  that works for your business but also feels warm and inviting to your clients and guests.

I grew up in beautiful Madison County, Virginia and currently reside in Ruckersville with my husband, Jamie, and our two children. My husband and I have purchased & renovated various residential properties over the years including our current home. Our style as a family continues to evolve as our children grow  and we want to always have a space that is welcoming for them, our family and friends. This was the driving force behind our most recent renovation which turned our current home into our forever home where we can host and entertain for years to come.

Marketing and Project Support

I grew up in Chester, Virginia, and after college spent several years on the West Coast before settling in Charlottesville, where I met my husband, Jimmie, and made our home. We now live here with our two cats, Betty and Blanche.

My appreciation for thoughtfully designed homes started early. My mom worked in real estate, and while she wasn’t a professional designer, her home was always warm, intentional, and beautifully designed. That influence continues to shape how I view design today.

At MIH, I focus on marketing and administrative operations, supporting the day-to-day flow of the business. And as the staging lead, I use my previous experience in real estate to highlight a home’s best features, create strong first impressions, and help spaces connect with buyers the moment they walk through the door.
